El proyecto Músicos de a Pie es una iniciativa de la Fundación Cultural Konsulta, con sede en Guadalajara y dirigida por Sara Valenzuela. Este libro de fotografías surge como una extensión de la exposición y acervo fotográfico Rostros de México, un esfuerzo que recorrió 27 estados y 150 poblaciones a lo largo de casi un año. Durante este tiempo, un estudio fotográfico itinerante se instaló en diversos espacios públicos, donde la generosa y espontánea participación de los pobladores permitió capturar no solo sus personalidades, sino también sus rasgos sociales, étnicos y culturales. A través de estos retratos, se documentaron oficios, atuendos, herramientas, gestos, sueños y emociones, reflejando cómo estos mexicanos enfrentan su cotidianidad.
