Con el objetivo de aminorar esta problemática, se han propuesto diversos métodos y programas con diferentes resultados. Un método o modelo cuya efectividad ha sido comprobada a través del tiempo y en diversos países y cultura es el Montessori.
A través de esta obra, los autores pretenden ofrecer una propuesta de aplicación de elementos del método o modelo Montessori como complemento de la educación regular con el propósito de auxiliar al (la) educador (a) en la ardua labor de la enseñanza-aprendizaje de la lectoescritura y matemáticas hacia niños con características y problemáticas diversas.
