El objetivo de este libro ha sido describir y analizar -mediante nueve estudios de caso- un fenómeno socio espacial que ha sido detectado en diversas localidades rurales y ciudades medias y pequeñas de distintas geografías: la especialización económica, que entendemos como el predominio de algunas actividades que define, organiza o tiene un papel significativo en las dinámicas socioeconómicas, laboral, ambiental, organizativa y espacial de las localidades.Este libro ofrece información etnográfica reciente y entabla discusiones acerca de las especializaciones económicas locales -unas conocidas y otras novedosas- documentando sus transiciones, lo que nos permite explicar las razones, anteriores y actuales, de las permanencias así como de las fuerzas que impulsan y modelan las especializaciones de hoy.
