Acercarse a la muerte y tener consciencia de su inminencia mueve no sólo al moribundo sino a todo su entorno, y la posibilidad de mantener una calidad de vida hasta el último aliento depende de gran medida de la posición económico-social en que se ha vivido: cuando la muerte ocurre en familias empobrecidas, el bienestar se ve comprometido. Este libro no pretende ser una guía sobre cómo acompañar al que muere, y mucho menos sobre cómo prepararse para el fin. Acaso buscar sensibilizar al lector sobre las condiciones en que gran mayoría de nuestra población vive en el proceso de despedida. Procura dar voz y rostro a algunos desafortunados que pasaron invisibles para las instituciones y su comunidad, así como fortalecer la solidaridad social alrededor de la muerte en los sectores más vulnerables.
